There will always be folks that's too dim to understand even the most basic task.
What I'm aiming at here is that some people (read: Me, myself and I) might have trouble understanding how some of the features of this site work.
Thus; This topic...
Here we of lesser intellect can pose ourselves in the open, ready to be laughed at as we ask the most obvious of questions about this site and all its features. (perhaps getting me some INT instead of AGI would help?)
Anyway, here's my question, just to kick it off:
------------------------------------------------------------
Regulating the visible part of a topic...
I've seen some blog-posts that's longer that a politicial's list of lies and yet only the first sentence or so are visible until you actually open the post. How does that happen?
Whenever I post something it seems like half the post is visible from the main page of the site.
The system on the back end automatically creates a teaser at 600 characters into the post. This applies to the actual post displayed and to the teaser that is sent via RSS.
I can change this to any value - even switch it off. My concern with switching it off are those long posts. It's not a retro-active change though, so only newer posts will have any new length on it.
You can manually adjust the break by adding < !--break-- > (Without the spaces) where you want it to break. I've not tested though what that would do to posts where you wanted to put the break after 600 characters.
So what do you guys reckon? Do away with the teasers and show the full post on the main page?
Thanks. It was the < !-- break -- > comment line I was looking for. :)
Here are my questions:
1) the first 3 or 4 characters on the left when I type in this "comment" box are always hidden, but appear when I post okay. I reckon its an I.E thing because on my home PC I use Firefox and its okay. Here at work where I do most posting I have to use IE because the IT people are like the Gestapo. Is it just me that gets this?
B) Why is it that when I look at some posts they appear out of chronological order? I feel it might be to do with hether you reply to the previous poster, or reply to the original poster? It kind of throws out the "flow" of the thread when reading it. Or is it a setting I can change?
P.S In reply to Tanitha, I kind of like to see a snippet of the post - or at least it hasnt bothered me to date.
1. I have no idea, I haven't touched IE except for testing in the lab.
2. The comments are displayed in a chronological basis, depending on their root. (Threaded). So, if you reply to comment it will appear below that it's parent. However, each time somebody else replies the next comment will (I think) go above that one. You can change the setting by adjusting the Comment Viewing Options and clicking [Save Settings]. If you do not see that - let me know!
This isn't really a question about the site, but rather a suggestion.
I've seen the WIKI and WOW links up on the banner and noticed that the WOW link is to the american site. I don't know how many here play on EU servers, but if you (Tanitha) feel enough players come from EU and want to make a link to the WOW EU site the URL are as follows:
http://www.wow-europe.com
Are there any way to stop your own views from registering as views in your own blog?
I do not know, unfortunately. I will have to dig through the Drupal knowledge base to see if there is a way.
Gormash, it seems one needs to modify statistics.module's on_exit( ) function. I will need to retrieve the UID from the database for the given node ID, check if the logged in user is the one who posted that node and then exit the function without incrementing the statistics for it. This will take me a while, I need to work now - so I'll get onto it a bit later.
Is there any way to quickly browse to the next blog post?
I wanted to catch up on some blogging here after my ten day holiday, so I wanted to start at the first post I missed and slowly work my way up to the present, but I couldn't find an easy way to do this. If there is no option for this yet, some kind of 'Next blog post'-button, like the 'Go to the next forum topic' one would be appreciated.
Oh, almost forgot the comment title thingy. It is weird reading the same line twice when you are reading the comments. I think you need it as a kind of blurb to link through the recent comments, but is it possible to switch them off when viewing the comments?
You can try the Recent posts link. That will list all new content since you had last visited, including entries which had gotten comments. I'll have a look at removing the caption from the comments.
Edit: Done, I've removed the comment title output from comment.tpl.php.
Thank you, the comments look much better now.

Tried to activate my accoutn and login - it say me acount is not activated or blocked and it won't let me post under gman12 as that is a registered user.
