I'm finding myself in a bit of a quandary. My current Age of Conan subscription ends on Sunday and it is going to leave a big, gaping void in my gaming related activities. Which, to be honest, is mostly restricted to playing while waiting for a cube to process or an ETL to finish, but still.
So, what I want if possible is some feedback on my options, please. To help shape my thinking, so to speak.
World of Warcraft: A good, stable gaming choice. There are years of content and it is well done for what it is. I love Warlocks, Dreadsteeds and know a lot of people that play. With the relative ease factor it is certainly not going to be overwhelming.
Age of Conan: My favourite MMO, but I am disgusted by the future direction. However, it might play out better than I fear. Gorgeous, visceral and enjoyable game as it stands.
Eve Online:I've always been fascinated by this and it hearkens back to my favourite game of all time, Elite. It seems a bit daunting though and I don't know if the social interaction is quite for me. But, offline progression as well which can be interesting and you can pay off your game time with ISK.
Warhammer Online: Scenarios are my favourite element in an MMO to date, bar none. Quick, dirty and fun PvP that is brilliant. I love the classes, but through Tier 2 and onwards it becomes a real slog of boredom.
Lord of the Rings: Beautiful, lovely. Great game with fantastic graphics, mood and true to the setting. And about as appetising as a month old crust of stale bread in terms of solo play. It just gets samesy so quickly it's not funny.
Offline games: I have a pile of games, including Overlord, Sins of a Solar Empire, Assassins' Creed and Mirrors' Edge waiting for me. I haven't played any of them in depth and there are weeks of gaming waiting right there. Non MMO but honestly, is that so important? I don't know anymore.
Perfect World Online: Free game. Nice graphics, fun cartoony style and no level cap. Yes, no level cap. It gets increased as somebody approaches it. Insane world bosses, but very traditional grindy Asian MMO. Can I handle that? I don't think so.
To be honest, I'm not sure. I have no idea what I want to play. I just feel a need to have something you know? At the moment I'm leaning towards giving EVE a shot or just carrying on with Age of Conan. Advice? Thoughts? Opinions on any of these games and others? Please!

I have to admit, I really really really wish LotRO would get their act together and release something that was a bit more... solo-friendly. Hell, You can't even go back at max level and solo the easiest instance in the game (as a burg anyway). It would be my favorite game if it was just... lighter. My subscription is still running... I think I might check it out again to see what all has happened since december.
I am just waiting for Age of Dragons to come out, tbh. With my fiance and I starting to live together in... 2 months 4 days, I don't really see much of a point in MMO's all that much anymore.
And I don't see CoD4 on that list anywhere!
Dragon Age. Yes, I forgot about that. And, to be honest, Demigod is looking mighty tasty as are the Sims 3. Wait. Did I just say that? I did. I so did.

Y'know, I remember back to the GW forums when, I think, CMEPTb had posted the story that had been featured in PC Gamer? How that one crew had put out a hit for another, and it took them like, what, 2 years of RP to finally make it happen. Once it did, it went down as one of the, if not -the-, largest "corporate" takedowns in that setting. My point? You, as someone who enjoys RP, again if I recall proper, practically went "squee!" ;) Why not give it a go?
I remember that heist. It was a truely epic gaming moment, agreed. You have me three quarters convinced now. Payment for my side jobs is coming through this weekend, so I'll pick up EVE for one...
Chunderpants? Is there any benefit to me signing up for your crew? You won't kill me, will you? ;)
:)
I mean, what the hell y'know? What's to lose? You've only mentioned it a spattering of times over the past, well, since the GW forum post (and that was quite some time ago). Do I -like- disuading you from, say, WoW? Not particularly, however, I also remember how quickly you disliked levelling a lock for the seeming bajillionth time (besides the fact this most recent patch seemed to torque a good number of locks). LotRO? Yeah, there's that - but, again, you've already played it, took a sabbatical, and revisited it. Plus, EVE has Chunder somewhere in its star spangled galaxies.
I would have suggested that space game lord british released... gawd i had a level 42 tank in that one cant even remember the name, but its shutdown
WoW. You have a 70, take some time to level to 80.
I have been tempted by Eve myself... i may see you there! Couple of months more in ulduar yet though i suspect.
You're thinking of Tabula Rasa, Justing." deserves to be smacked over the neck with the skinny end of a fishing pole. The mans name is Garriot. He should stick with it...
And please don't call him "Lord Brittish". Anyone calling themselves "Lord
Back to topic:
Agree that you should try WOW, at least for a while. You already GOT the expansion, right?
If not, gve EVE a try. It wasn't a game for me, but you might feel fifferent. ;)
EvE eh? Well the corp - if not the alliance Im in is a small one but the guys/gals in there are a nice bunce of people, which is not so easy to find in EvE tbh.
Firstly payment:
My suggestion is to buy the box which was released about a month ago. If youre version is the same as ours, it comes with a 60 day pre-payment card and works out cheaper than a two month payment if you download the game and subscribe. Might be worth checking the prices though first. I will be buying another box in a months time as in UK sterling its £3.00 cheaper to use the card included than to do it with direct debit. A small cost saving but...
Paying through ingame currency is possible, however you need to realise that its only something you can do with LOTS of isk (in game currency). It takes a lot of work to generate this and imho isnt possible for a long time. I personally dont play enough to generate the isk to buy that way.
Secondly, the game:
It aint easy. Dont get me wrong, its a great game but as Gormash said, it appeals to some and not to others. I cant make that verdict as even though we were married once, and you left me because I was a poor miner, I dont know youre tastes well enough. Its totally different to really any other MMO. Its harder than Elite for sure. Obviously you know the world is all on one shard and is 100% pvp if you want it to be, so joining our corp / alliance would be no problem; many in my corp are US, one is Aus and I speak to him in the mornings usually.
If you decide to get it, I will be on line as either Meg Deminer (she's in the corp) or Rami Tinard (she's not in the corp).
There are certain things I can help you with such as which skills to train depending on what you want to do in game, joining the corp, tagging along with you, assisting in questions and answers etc. It'd be fun. generally I keep out of the trouble areas so dont get involved in the pvp aspect as currently my skills are too low (on Meg) to put up a successful pvp fight in lo sec areas. However we have just been through a war with another corp who declared war on us for 2 weeks and obviously that was pvp - more of a slaughter really lol.
Chatting isnt perhaps as voracious as it is in wow. There are lots of silences. This isnt always bad as it gives you time to do what you want without interferance, but manys the time I say something and wait for ages for a reply.
My advice:
Get it for a try, but give it a few weeks to find what you like and dont give up on it and the initial difficulties will realise themselves into understanding. Buy the box and you know you have 2 months worth of trying it out and less to download (just a patch or two). You can dip in and out at will, train skills while you are offline (damned good but my current skill in training is 15 days long...groan).
Have a bit of a read up on it beforehand. The different races to try, which have different ships and characteristics. Dont go with Minmatar as a first race as they can be quite difficult to train well. I went Gallente this time with Meg as the ships are quite nice looking. Really there is too much to tell you here. I really enjoy it anyway, but then Im not so poor anymore and can afford some decent stuff lol.
On the other hand you do have a lot of single player games!
